Twitter – Finding A Kidnapped Baby During An Amber Alert (& Other Emergencies)

On February 18th, 2010, a one year old baby was kidnapped in Swansea, MA.  A few hours later, and Amber Alert was broadcast over the radio.  The baby was clearly in serious danger, and hours could mean the difference between life and death.

See how I worked with Fox TV News to develop a Twitter strategy to help find the baby.

In this session, you will learn

  • absolutely cutting edge techniques that were developed that afternoon
  • how you can use these ideas in the future
  • mistakes we might have made, and improvements for next time
  • the organizations that you should help to put pressure on to improve their technologies for emergencies

The story has a happy ending, as the baby was found in under 6 hours.  We don’t know for sure if the person who found the baby found out through Twitter, but we do know that millions of people nationally knew about it through Twitter.  In fact, Alyssa Milano ReTweeted it to over 600,000 people.
